NZ through to last 16 at World Men's Team Champs

30/09/2009 - New Zealand is through to the last 16 at the World Men's Team Squash Championships in Denmark.
The 10th seeded kiwis have been beaten 3-0 by 7th seeded Canada in the Pool G decider, but the top two teams go through to the knockout rounds.

Martin Knight was first on court for New Zealand and looked on course to give his side a one match lead in the best of three tie, after winning the first two games 11-7 11-8 against Shawn Delierre. However, the Canadian fought back to take the next three, winning 11-7 in the fifth after a tough 75 minute battle.

That left kiwi number one Kashif Shuja the unenviable task of trying to upset Jonathon Power to keep the tie alive. However, Power was simply too good, winning 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 in 34 minutes.

As a result, Campbell Grayson's match against Shahier Razik was a dead rubber, but Razik completed a clean sweep for the Canadians with a straight games victory in 41 minutes.

New Zealand will now play 8th seeded Italy in the first knockout round.
