24/11/2009 - The Squash NZ Coach of the Year awards for 2009 went to three very deserving recipients whose work in their clubs, communities and districts has helped to enhance the squash experience for all. For 2009 the Squash NZ Coach of the Year awards went to Paul Cornish (Junior Coach of the Year), Mike Allred (Team Coach of the Year) and Manu Yam (Coach of the Year). |
Junior Coach of the Year: Paul Cornish
Paul is based at the Devonport Club and runs a diverse and successful range of coaching programmes including: Running a very thriving Junior Programme at the Devonport Club Leads 8 Coaches. Set up the JETS (Junior Emerging Team Series) which involves a competition between five North Shore Squash Clubs involving 12 teams. Group, Beginner, Adult Coaching, Individual, Holiday Programmes, Graded Champs and Schools Coaching.
Team Coach of the Year: Mike Allred
Mike has had a stellar year as a Coach and is helping to produce some fantastic talent in Canterbury. Some of his achievements include: Coaching the Canterbury Under 19 boys team. This team won the inter districts team finals at Junior Nationals in 2009. This is the first time a Canterbury team has won this title in 32 years. The team went on to win the team of the year award in Canterbury, competing against 30 other teams from different codes. He has a total of five players in the World Junior and National Development Squads.
Coach of the Year: Manu Yam
Manu is a coach at Belmont Rackets Club and has been inspirational in setting up a variety of programmes. His passion and dedication to the sport is fantastic. Manu has been involved in; Taking Club Night, After School lessons, Holiday programmes and Elite programmes. He coaches at Takapuna, Westlake, Rangitoto College, Royal Oak Intermediate, Browns Bay and Auckland Special. Coaching the E and C grade teams. Developed a Women in Squash' programme which he ran in conjunction with Squash Auckland's Women in Squash' programme. Auckland Squad Coaching with U13, U15, U17 and U19.
