Greetings
Hello everyone and welcome to the first in a series of regular newsletters.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have been involved in squash as a player and administrator for most of my life. I played squash in Canterbury until I moved to Auckland recently but I remain an ardent and unrepentant red and black supporter.
I have done a bit of coaching, run district interclub competitions, been a part of two successful International squash events and I continue to be impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of the volunteers in our sport.
My key priorities are - - Providing leadership —listen, learn and lead. - Commercial sustainability. - Developing relationships.
I view this as an evolutionary process that requires energy , determination and the co-operation and support of all sectors of our squash community.
Clubs remain the lifeblood of our sport and it is vital they remain strong and viable. A Nationally led club development programme is a key part of the SNZ strategic vision and I will be working with districts to develop their plans for 2010.
To support these initiatives I will work to ensure that we have a National Office that is efficient, effective and delivers products and services that meet the needs of our game.
I welcome your comments and feedback and look forward to meeting many of you in the future May you all have a great Xmas and a Happy New Year.
Jim O' Grady Chief Executive Squash New Zealand
The Year in Review
As the year draws to a close it is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the last twelve months and to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to our sport.
The most significant piece of work undertaken by the Board of SNZ this year has been the T2020 project.
This is a long term vision for squash to create a streamlined infrastructure, review the nature and systems of membership/affiliation and develop behaviours and relationships that form the culture of the organisation.
Great progress has been made with the Squash IT Platform and Coaching, with plans in place to further enhance these projects next year.
An advisory group will also look at affiliation and membership, reporting back to the 2010 mid year Presidents meeting.
Our HP team is on track for the CWG in Delhi next year and we wish them well in their preparations.
After an absence of 12 years a very successful NZ Open was held in Mt Maunganui. Featuring eight of the top 10 women in the world our own Shelley Kitchen made it through to the semi finals—her best ever WISPA result.
Lastly thanks to all who have made a difference - my Staff, The Board, NSCT, HP Board, Selectors, Conveners, Referees, Coaches, Sponsors, SPARC, Club K and all the district and club volunteers .
Naku i runga i aku mihi ki a koe.
Whats hot— - 2010 WISPA calendar - Live grading system - PSA internet squash www.psasquashtv.com - Xmas holidays - Hall of Fame - Manu Yam—coach of the year - Te Puke—club of the year
Whats not— - Late SEM returns
The Meaning of Life
Remember that everyone struggles at times. It's incredibly draining to live through the day doing something that you really don't enjoy.
But if you follow your dreams, at least you will exhaust yourself doing what you love most.
