Back in the 80s and early 90s, the BBC regularly televised squash for its Grandstand programme while tournaments such as the British Open witnessed 3,000 sell outs at Wembley when Jahangir and Jansher Khan were dominating the sport.
But adminstators failed to capitalise on the glass court appeal. TV viewing quickly became a staid market and sponsors began to drop off. As a result, the British Open, a 75-year-old event, has twice come close to folding over the last decade
