03/02/2010 - New Zealand's top squash players are on the improve in the latest world rankings |
|
A new milestone for New Zealand's Jaclyn Hawkes in the latest world squash rankings. After winning last week's Chairman's Cup in Hong Kong, Hawkes has climbed two places to number 15 on the February rankings list. It is just one shy of her career high of 14 , set in September last year. However, for the first time in her career, Hawkes is the top New Zealander in the rankings. The 27-year-old has overtaken Shelley Kitchen who is down one place to 17. Kitchen is currently out of action as she awaits the impending birth of her first child. Another New Zealander on the improve is Joelle King, climbing to a career high 30 this month. King is in fine form at the moment, qualifying for the main draw at the Harrow Greenwich Open last month and beating Egyptian world number 13 Engy Kheirallah earlier this week. Not to be outdone by the kiwi women, Martin Knight has also stormed up the men's rankings list. Knight has jumped to number 39 on the February list, up nine places on his previous career best of 48 from last month. Campbell Grayson's continued the upward trend, climbing three places to 46 this month, but Kashif Shuja has slipped two place to number 54.
