11/02/2010 - The new Acting President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, is not just an avid player of squash; he appears to have the health and the vitality to play the game. |
In the run up to the Peoples Democratic Party primaries for the 2007 presidential election, members of the kitchen cabinet of the then president, Olusegun Obasanjo warned him of the implication of backing Umaru Yar'Adua as the presidential candidate of the party. They said his health, which barely survived the rigours of governing Katsina State will not possibly stand the stress of ruling Nigeria.
Always blunt no matter the situation, Mr. Obasanjo was said to have confronted Mr. Yar'Adua about the state of his health, and pronto, Mr. Yar'Adua challenged his boss to two rounds of the game of squash.
