16/03/2010 - Jonathan Power, former World number 1 who retired in 2006 and Peter Nicol, former rival of Power's and former world No 1 who also retired in 2006 have recently been in New York to launch a Legends Tour. |
Venues will include Boston, New York, London, Sheffield, Manchester and Jersey, while John White, Jahangir Khan, Rodney Eyles, Ahmed Barada and Lee Beachill are some of the names who are likely to feature.
Expect insurmountable amounts of fun, choice exchanges with the referee (you'll never hear the same jibe twice from Power throughout the tour) and a steely-determination to keep winning. Unlike John McEnroe, the promoters don't need to hand Power dollars per outburst to an expectant crowd, for the enthusiasm clearly hasn't waned for today's game.
“There is a certain energy in the professional game today,” he says. “The college game, the juniors and what's happening in Egypt and the potential of the sport to grow in the Middle East is all beginning to blossom.
