Top turn out for Waikato Open

28/04/2010 - An impressive line-up will take the courts at this weekend's Waikato Open in Hamilton
Two of New Zealand's top touring professional squash players headline an impressive array of talent at this weekend's Waikato Open in Hamilton.

Joelle King and Campbell Grayson are both home after successful stints overseas, and are favoured to win their respective titles this weekend.

King, the world number 23, is top seed in the women's event. The 21-year-old heads into the tournament fresh off her stunning victory at the Texas Open earlier this month, where she downed world number five Rachael Grinham in the final. Her main opposition is expected to come from second seeded Tamsyn Leevey. The former world number 24 is on the comeback trail again, with a possible eye on the women's world team championships in Palmerston North at the end of the year.

Two other players who may well be in the title hunt are third seeded Aucklander Lana Harrison and Waikato's Kylie Lindsay, who is currently ranked at number 54 in the world.

Meanwhile, Grayson is expected to have few troubles in the men's event after rising to a career high world ranking of 41 this month. However, standing in his way in the semifinals could well be his younger brother Alex, who is seeded four, while Wellington's Evan Williams and Auckland's George Crosby are seeded to meet on the other side of the draw.

The women's event gets underway tomorrow night, with the men's first round starting on Friday.
