29/04/2010 - Hawkes Bay Squash Club hosted their annual Open tournament last weekend and had a fantastic turnout.
Two of Squash NZ's Junior Boys Squad members, Bryce Redman and Tate Matson met in the men's final with Redman managing to edge out Matson in four games. |

We are delighted to be able to put up a full 16 draw for the Men's Open with 4 A graders – originally 5 but Liam O'Shaunghnessy had to withdraw with an injury. The final was played out between Bryce Redman, now of North Shore but a HB lad, and Tate Matson, with Bryce winning in 4 tight games. Bryce was, perhaps, fortunate to make it through the semis as he was pushed all the way by his younger brother, Todd, scraping through in 5. Todd then lost to Tom Nash in the play off for 3rd and 4th place.
The Ladies Open was won convincingly by Joanna Shanks, who also won the Men's Open Consolation Plate – a sterling effort as Joanna played no less than 8 matches over the weekend.
It was great to field full 8 draws for the Ladies and Men's C Grade, Ladies D and Men's E Grades. The Men's F Grade entries included a full 5 draw of juniors – excellent to see the youth coming through.
