28/05/2010 - Campbell Grayson is favoured to pick up his third title in the space of a month at this weekend's Herne Bay Open squash championships in Auckland. |
|
The world number 39 heads into the tournament fresh from winning the Remuera/Auckland Open last weekend, and the Waikato Open at the beginning of May. He takes on Mark Dunwoodie in the opening round tomorrow. However, there could be a dark horse standing in Grayson's way this weekend. The second seed is none other than former world number three Anthony Ricketts. Ricketts retired from the international circuit in December 2007 due to a troublesome knee injury, but has never been far from the court in his role as high performance coach with Squash New Zealand. Meanwhile, Joelle King also chases her third title in a month in the women's draw. The world number 21 did not drop a single game at either the Waikato Open or Remuera/Auckland Open and is again expected to dominate at Herne Bay. King's main opposition is expected to be former world number 24 Tamsyn Leevey, who is back on court chasing a spot in the New Zealand team for the Commonwealth Games as well as the Women's World Team Championships in Palmerston North later this year.
