Remuera's hopes of back to back women's titles at the National Club Teams Championships have been short-lived at the Hawke's Bay Squash Club in Napier.
The defending Mitchell Cup champions have gone down 3-1 to Squash Gym Palmerston North in the opening round. No such problem for second seeded Mitchell Park, who racked up a 4-0 win over North Shore while Hamilton also won 4-nil against Tauranga.
Meanwhile, there were contrasting results in the men's Cousins Shield competition. Panmure opened its account with a 5-nil thumping of Te Puke, while North Shore also won all five matches against Hawke's Bay.
However, it was a different story in the evening session, with Island Bay edging past Papakura 3-2 to make it through to the quarterfinals, while Hamilton also won 3-2 against Squash Gym Palmerston 2.
