New Zealand has been beaten in the quarterfinals of the World Junior Men's Squash Championships in Ecuador. The 11th seeded kiwis have lost 3-0 to third seeded England, although they didn't go down without a fight. Paul Coll was up against it in the opening match, facing Charles Sharpes who was seeded eighth in the individual event. However, the kiwi number one could take some confidence from beating seventh seeded Mexican Miled Zarazou in pool play. It was not to be though, with Sharpes proving too good on the day, winning 11-5, 11-5, 11-8. The acid fell on Lance Beddoes to keep New Zealand in the tie by beating English number two Nathan Lake, and all looked good when he raced out to a 2-0 lead. However, Lake fought back and Beddoes eventually went down 10-12, 7-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-5. James Earles then wrapped up a 3-0 victory for England with an 11-8, 11-6 victory over New Zealand number three Bryce Redman in the best of three game dead rubber. New Zealand will now play Germany in the playoffs for 5th-8th place. Results... England (3) def New Zealand (11) 1. Charles Sharpes def 1. Paul Coll 11-5, 11-5, 11-8 2. Nathan Lake def 2.
