NZ finishes 6th at World Champs

08/08/2010 - New Zealand has gone down 2-1 to India to finish sixth at the World Champs in Quito.
New Zealand has finished sixth at the World Junior Men's Squash Championships in Ecuador.

The 11th seeded kiwis have been beaten 2-1 by fourth seeded India in the playoff for fifth place.

Paul Coll got New Zealand off to a winning start, with a superb victory over Aditya Jagtap, who was seeded sixth in the individual event. Coll took out the match in straight games, winning 12-10, 11-6, 11-5.

New Zealand's hopes for yet another monumental upset at the tournament were lifted even further when Lance Beddoes took the first game 17-15 against India's number two Ravi Dixit. However, the 17-year-old kiwi could not kick on, losing the next three games 11-5, 11-8, 11-3 to leave the tie all square at 1-all.

Ramit Tandon then grabbed victory for India with a straight games win over kiwi number three Bryce Redman, winning 11-9, 11-5, 11-5.

Sixth place is New Zealand's best finish since 1992.
