11/08/2010 - The World Junior Boys Team arrived home at 4am on Tuesday 10 August to a small crowd of family and friends applauding their fantastic efforts at the World Champs in Ecuador. |
The team arrived home after a gruelling 21 hour flight from Quito and were very happy to be back at sea level after two weeks of hard squash at altitude.
The team was extremely successful at the Championships, beating Mexico to progress through to the last 16 before taking out Venezuela to reach the quarter finals!! They had a tough match up in the quarters against England, losing to them before beating Germany 2-1 to set up a playoff against world squash powerhouse India for 5th and 6th. The boys went down 2-1 in this match to finish 6th in the World.
Squash New Zealand wishes to congratulate the team of Lance Beddoes, Paul Coll, Bryce Redman, Michael Sunderland and coach Anthony Ricketts on a fantastic performance and hard work this year. It is NZ's best result since 1992 and marks an exciting future for NZ Squash!
The team wrote an excellent blog while in Ecuador. If you missed any of it, check it out by clicking on the link below.
