World Champs team on song in Henderson

12/07/08 New Zealand's world championship-bound junior boys have had a good first day at the North Island Age Group Champs in Henderson.
New Zealand's top junior boys have had few problems on day one of the North Island Junior Age Group Squash Championships in Henderson.

Top seed Evan Williams looks to be well and truly on song ahead of the upcoming World Championships in Switzerland, cruising into the quarterfinals of the under 19 boys event with a 9/0 9/0 9/1 demolition of American Hunter Bouchard.

New Zealand team mate Cameron Jamieson also advanced without too much fuss, beating Bay of Plenty's Mitchyll McCann 10/8 9/5 9/0, while the other world championship-bound kiwis, Alex Gayson and Keegan Burkhart both swept through in straight games.

In the under 19 girls draw, top seed Lana Harrison is through to the semifinals, after a straight games victory over fellow Aucklander Nicola Blake, while second seed Amanda Landers-Murphy dropped just two points in beating Eastern's Stormy Collier 9/1 9/1 9/0.

The only real upset in the top two draws on day one of the event saw American Kara Bloomgarden knock third seed Awhina Tapiata out of the tournament, winning their quarterfinal clash 9/3 9/3 9/0.
