Grading List - Squash NZ

TOP SEEDS DOMINATE EARLY ROUNDS

It was one way traffic for the top seeds at the NZ Junior Championships at the SquashGym Club in Palmerston North yesterday.
The week long championships, New Zealand's largest junior squash event has attracted over 250 players competing in the individual age groups and 16 representative district teams for the teams event that follows early next week.
In the premier U19 Age Group, girls' top seed and defending champion, Amanda Cranston, looks head and shoulders above the competition to secure her second title. The Waikato uni student, an A1 ranked player, heads a strong Waikato girls team which is also favoured in the interdistrict teams event. Cranston's biggest threats are Central District's Amanda Landers-Murphy and her Waikato team mate, Alana Simcock.
The boys U19 is less clearcut, NZ Junior Boys team mates, Aucklanders Cameron Jamieson, Alex Grayson & Wellington's Keegan Burkhart look likely semi finalists with another 5 A graders chasing them in the draw. In the boys teams event, Auckland, Eastern, Wellington & Canterbury are the top seeds.
Today saw the first rounds of all age groups from U19 through to U11's. The tournament continues tomorrow through to finals which are scheduled for Sunday midday. Notable spectators are Dame Susan Devoy who is following her 4 sons and fellow World Womens Champion, Carol Owens who coaches several Auckland juniors.
