Te Kani-McQueen causes huge upset at NZ Junior Squash Champs

Rotorua's Matiu Te Kani-McQueen caused a boilover at the NZ Junior Squash Championships at the SquashGym club in Palmerston North. In the first semi-final of the premier boy's Under 19, Te Kani-McQueen beat top seed and NZ junior team member Auckland's Cameron Jamieson 9/6 9/3 9/0.
Te Kani-McQueen will now play second seed Auckland's Alex Grayson from the second semifinal, which he won 9/5 9/7 6/9 9/4. They play for the NZ Junior boy's title at the Palmerston North club at 2.30pm Sunday.
In the girls under 19, defending champ Waikato's Amanda Cranston booked a place in the final against Central's Amanda Landers-Murphy. Both Cranston and Landers-Murphy cruised through in three easy games. They now play in the premier girls final at 1.45pm.
Other age groups have gone according to seeding, in the boys' and girls' Under 17s, Under 15s, Under 13s and Under 11s. Notable spectators are Dame Susan Devoy who is following her 4 sons and fellow World Women's Champion, Carol Owens who coaches several Auckland juniors.
