National Coach Development Framework

The Squash NZ National Coach Development framework is modular based. It is developed nationally and delivered regionally. This provides flexibility to each District to suit their needs.

This framework was developed by the National Coaching Director with the help of the Coaching Advisory Panel, National Coaches, Sport New Zealand and over 120 coaches from across the districts who contributed to the plans in a series of roadshows in 2009.

As modules are developed, details of the modules will be published on the Squash NZ website. Please note that this is a continuous process and is still ongoing, so please be patient as we look forward to a bright and exciting future in squash coaching.

The framework is still being developed with the following modules completed and available.

Extension Module 1a and 1b are both Online Modules. Please click on the link above to read more about the module and to complete the online training.

All other modules are delivered locally through the eleven Squash Districts. Please contact your local District to find out their upcoming coach development opportunities.

Coaches Code of Ethics  

Coaches on the Framework are required to sign the Coaches Code of Ethics at the completion of the modules.

This is based on the National Coaching Code of Ethics provided by Sport NZ.

This covers a variety of situations in the coaching environment under seven separate headings which are

• Respecting the rights, dignity and worth of every individual athlete as a human being
• Maintaining high standards of integrity
• Be a positive role model for your sport and athletes and act in way that projects a positive image for coaching
• Professional Responsibilities
• Make a commitment to provide a quality service to your athletes
• Provide a safe training environment for training and competition
• Protect your athletes from any form of personal abuse

The full code of ethics form (PDF) is  available here , Squash NZ reserve the right to remove any qualifications gained on the framework should these standards be proven to have been broken.

Squash NZ would strongly recommend that all clubs contracting coaches to work at their clubs complete the following procedure 

• Verification of coaching qualifications with Squash NZ Coaching Director
• Reference checks from any previous roles
• Completion of the police vetting procedure

 Pre-existing Quaifications

The existing Squash Leaders, Level 1, and Level 2 courses will still be recognised qualifications in New Zealand for a minimum of 10 years. The recognition of prior learning in other environments will also be taken into account.

Coach Development Director Dave Clark provides the reason for this... "Coach development is a constantly evolving learning environment as the game changes as a coach we too must change with it, because if we stand still for long we are really going backwards".
