The VIP Functions are set to be a great affair with Club VIPs being invited to the Opening Ceremony with a line-up of cultural, dance and musical acts. The Clubs are also hosting their VIPs during the quarter finals in the VIP area at the QEYC – this should be a fantastic occasion and provide the VIPs with a great spectacle.
Jim Kayes has been appointed Media Manager. A story on the Fatialofa Family (Henderson Squash Club) was published in the NZ Herald and also featured on the Tangata Pasifika Show. Shelley Kitchen, NZ High Performance Manager, was interviewed on Radio Live. Great to see many of the New Zealand Squad in action during the Oceania Champs and NZ Junior Open. It’s great to see many of the Club juniors competing in these events as well.
Term 2 sees over 1,200 year 5/6 children participate in the KiwiSquash School Legacy Programme. An 80-page resource has been developed so children can be involved with the exciting World Junior Squash Championships in Tauranga 19-29 July 2017. An event like this doesn’t come around often and provides opportunities for more than just those who follow and support the game of squash. The resource is intended to stimulate both teacher and pupil into a study that involves language, maths, social studies, art, health and well-being. Students will undertake a study on a particular nation competing in the World Junior Squash Championships, learning about different cultures in fun and exciting ways in order to drive the learning experience. Classes and Schools can also win prizes.
In addition, the students will participate in 4-weeks of squash coaching in the schools. A Fun Day is also being organised which will be run by SportBOP. The children will be bused into the QEYC for the Fun Day and then watch some live action squash. Clubs will also be hosting Open Days following the event. The Legacy programme can be found here Legacy Programme overview
