Squash New Zealand were 'On the Move'

Squash NZ On the Move

From the top of the north, to the bottom of the south and everywhere in between, Squash New Zealand staff were 'On the Move' during the past month visiting District personnel, meeting with Regional Sports Trusts and networking with local club committees and members.

The first roadshow workshop was hosted in Whangarei on Thursday 2 March. Over the following 4 weeks, 197 people from 77 different clubs of all shapes and sizes attended the 18 interactive workshops as part of the overarching Try it. Play it. Love it. initiative. These all provided to be extremely valuable (rated 8.4/10) for club committee members and coaches alike.

Straight from the attendee’s mouths:

  • “Got me thinking about what is possible”
  • “Laid out suite of programmes well, very interesting and thought provoking”
  • “Everything was explained clearly and is going to help the sport progress tremendously”
  • “Really enjoyed hearing about all the different ways and ideas that we can provide at our club, plus all the coaching and training that supports it”
  • “Excellent research base led to thorough analysis of options for clubs and very well communicated”
  • “Got a new boost of energy to take back to the club”

Those who attended benefitted from the excellent opportunity to discuss key trends and everyone walked away with useful ideas, resources and motivation to grow participation and club memberships - as the ‘Squash Movement’ begins.

Topics discussed included:

  • The current state of squash in New Zealand
  • Trends and research affecting your community’s demographics
  • Different ways to play squash
  • Planning for the future
  • The science of timetabling
  • Coach development opportunities
