Devoy Squash and Fitness and Herne Bay A will be battling out to claim the Cousins Shield title tomorrow whilst the Thorndon and Belmont Park ladies team will battle it out in the Mitchell Cup Final.

The Quarter Finals of the Cousins Shield proved to be an interesting affair with 3rd seeds Thorndon proving to be too strong for fellow Wellington team and 6th seeds Mitchell Park with Thorndon claiming the win 5-0. Top seeds Whangarei continued their winning ways against 8th seeds Remuera claiming their win 4-1. It was a battle between 5th seeds Devoy Squash and Fitness and 4th seeds Squashways going down to the end but it was 5th seeds Devoy who upset three time champions Squashways 3-2. 2nd seeds Herne Bay A took a tight win over 7th seeds Belmont Park claiming their win 3-2 and their spot in the Semi-Finals.

The Semi-Finals of the Cousins Shield saw top seeds Whangarei take on the fifth seeds Devoy Squash and Fitness Centre. Devoy took a good lead with wins from Ben Grindrod and Jamie Oakley against Luke Jones and Michael Sunderland respectively. Angus Gillams the Whangarei import put Whangarei back on the board but it was Josh Oakley who secured Devoy’s spot in the final with a win over Brent Lewis, Devoy taking the tie 3-2. The other men’s Semi-Final saw third seeds Thorndon take on second seeds and home club heroes Herne Bay A. Evan Williams got the team off to a good start with a win over George Crosby but Chris Lloyd levelled the score for Herne Bay beating Sam Atkins. It was Thorndons import Mahesh Mangaonkar that took the win over Peter Creed and got Thorndon back in the lead. Ed Dromgool took out Thorndons Willie Bicknell and sent the tie to the decider. Matiu Te Kani McQueen put everything on the line for Herne Bay and took the win from Richard Pittams and Herne Bay claimed their spot in the final 3-2 and will be looking to claim the title like they did last time they hosted the evnt in 2011.

Pool A of the Mitchell Cup proved to be a tight affair after every team came out winning 1 tie each sending it back to matches won which saw a tie again. After some tense number crunching it was eventually fourth seeds Belmont Park who came out on top followed by fifth seeds Remuera and the top seeds North Shore ended up coming in third. In Pool B the calculators could be put down as Thorndon took out Hamilton in the final tie of pool play making the fourth seeds Thorndon come first, second seeds Hamilton came second and 6th seeds Royal Oak coming in third.

The finals start at 1pm at Herne Bay Ponsonby Rackets club.
